Sustainably sourced Calendula
Did you know that vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers with minimal use of soil and water? Vertical farming helps fight the issue of decreasing usable farmland, one of the biggest challenges to agriculture globally.
REDUCING WATER USE THROUGH VERTICAL FARMING
Our soothing calendula is grown on a sustainable vertical farm that requires no soil, and can save up to 90% of the water used in traditional farming practices. The farm uses hydroponic-like systems, where plants are grown in vertical layers and are cared for meticulously to both protect the plants and optimize their growing conditions. Everything from the temperature and humidity in the room, to the amount of water used to hydrate the plants can be carefully managed to care for the crop. The farming facility uses solar energy to power the vertical farm, and proudly produces plants that are free from herbicides, pesticides, GMOs, heavy metals or other toxins.
The farmers also work hard to produce their crops in ways that support their zero waste goals. After each growing cycle, the nourishing calendula flowers are harvested, any waste is composted, and a new cycle of growing begins.
Vertical farming can take many forms, all with the goal of decreasing environmental impact in innovative ways. Some methods like aquaponic vertical farming allow fish and plants to grow together in a symbiotic relationship where the fish fertilize the water, and the plants feed on it. Aeroponics is another method, in which the plant roots are exposed instead of grown in soil or water and are spritzed or misted with water and fertilizer. Both of these methods in addition to hydroponics as described above, are mindfully constructed sustainable farming practices. The end goal is to decrease environmental impact and produce a carefully nurtured, healthy crop in the process.
